When encountering a performance issue with Lucidchart or Lucidspark, following the steps detailed below will often resolve the issue. Read this article for troubleshooting tips you can try on your own before contacting the support team.

First steps

Performance issues in Lucid are often related to browser or network issues. In most cases, you can resolve the issue by trying the following:

Check your browser

Make sure you're using the most recent version of your browser.
Lucid is optimized for Google Chrome. For best performance, we recommend using Chrome.
Open your document in a Chrome incognito window. Doing so disables extensions and clears cache and cookies, which often improves performance. This may also help you identify an extension causing an issue with Lucid performance.

Check your internet connection

Refresh the document or board.
Connect to a different network if possible.
Disconnect from your VPN if you are connected to one.

Decrease document size or number of collaborators

Lucid documents with many page tabs, large canvases on each tab, or a high number of shapes can experience increased time to load and update when changes are made. If going through each of the First steps above does not solve the issue you are experiencing, try the following:

In any Lucid document

If you have more than 100 active collaborators on your board, try splitting your collaborators into multiple documents.
If you have a high number of collaborators in your document, turning off collaborator cursors may decrease latency and improve performance. For instructions, refer to our Collaborate in Lucid article.
If the document needs to be frequently viewed, but not edited, consider publishing it to create a view-only URL. Published documents load much more quickly.
If you are experiencing the “Aw, Snap!” crash page when trying to open documents or boards while using the Chrome browser, try using Firefox instead of Chrome. While Chrome is the optimal browser for using Lucidchart and Lucidspark, if your browser is crashing due to lack of memory, switching to Firefox can help because it doesn’t cap memory.
Give Lucid a moment to catch up by having all collaborators stop editing for 60 seconds.

In Lucidchart

Split a large Lucidchart document into multiple documents. This can be done by copying and pasting the content into a new document or importing a Lucidchart page into another document.

In Lucidspark

Limit the amount of freehand drawing on the board.
Use Breakout Boards to break up content and people.

Turn off WebGL

WebGL is a rendering technology for web-based applications that uses your device’s graphics hardware to render content faster. Using hardware-accelerated WebGL for Lucid’s products will almost always result in a better experience.

In rare cases, WebGL can cause lines and text in the editor to appear incorrectly. If you experience performance issues with lines or text, turn off WebGL to see if that resolves the issue.

In Lucidchart, select the View tab of the menu bar.
- In Lucidspark or Lucidscale, select the More menu or Model Options menu.
Hover your cursor over “Rendering”.
Uncheck the “Use WebGL” option.
