Try basic troubleshooting first
Most problems with text are related to browser or network issues. Check out our Basic troubleshooting article for more information. In most cases, the steps outlined in that article will resolve the problem you are having.
Identify the issue
If basic troubleshooting did not solve the problem, use this section to identify the specific issue you are having with text in Lucid. Under each of the common issues below is a list of troubleshooting steps that usually resolve the issue. Click the troubleshooting step for more detail.

Troubleshooting steps
Turn off WebGL
WebGL is a rendering technology that uses your device’s graphics hardware to render content faster. If your hardware is incompatible with WebGL, it can cause text, lines, and other visuals to appear incorrectly. To see if this is causing your issues with text, follow these steps to turn off WebGL:
- Open
the More menu from the top-left of the canvas.
- In Lucidchart, after opening the More menu, hover your cursor over “View”.
- Hover your cursor over “Rendering”.
- Uncheck the “Use WebGL” option.

Select a new font
In some cases, the font used on a document can be incompatible with your device or document settings. When this happens, the font can appear distorted, as black boxes, or not show up at all. Changing the font of the text in the document often solves this issue. To do this:
- Select shapes in your document containing text.
- Change the font.
- In Lucidchart, select a new font from the dropdown in the Formatting bar at the top of the canvas.
- In Lucidspark, select a new font from the dropdown in the context menu that appears.
Re-upload the font file
If a custom font you have uploaded is not working as expected, try re-uploading the font to see if that resolves the issue. If it doesn’t, note the following:
- Lucid supports TTC, TTF, and OTF font file types. All other font file types do not work in Lucid products.
- Custom fonts work for anyone viewing your document, even if they have not uploaded the font themselves. However, if someone makes a duplicate of your document, they need to change the document’s font or upload the custom font to the new document in order to view the text properly.
FAQ
How do I set a default font for my document?
To set a default font in Lucidchart, deselect all objects from the canvas, then change the font. Setting a default font is not possible in Lucidspark.
Does Lucid support the use of right-to-left languages, such as Arabic?
No. Lucid does not currently support typing text from right to left.
How do I move my cursor to the next line of text?
While typing in a text box or a bulleted list, hit “Enter” to move the cursor to the next line. While typing in shapes and sticky notes, use “Ctrl + Enter” for PC or “Cmd + Enter” for Mac to move the cursor to the next line.
I uploaded multiple custom fonts into Lucid. Why can't I see them all?
When uploading multiple files for a font with different formatting variations, the font may upload into Lucid as a single file. For example, if you upload multiple files for the Roboto font including "Roboto-Bold" and "Roboto-Italic", you may only see the option for "Roboto" in the list of available fonts. To change the format, use Lucid’s formatting options when text is selected.
Lucid does not support multiple levels of formatting such as "Medium Italic" or "Extra Bold". In these cases.
