Whether you’re adding thoughts to the canvas or connecting ideas, Lucidspark makes it easy to add and edit text. This article will teach you how to add text to different objects and edit its style and formatting.

Add text to a board
Add a text box
To add a text box to the canvas, click the Text icon in the Primary Toolbar or press “T” on your keyboard, then click anywhere on the canvas. Once you add one text box, you can double click on the canvas to add another.
You can also click on the Text tool in the Primary Toolbar and drag a text box onto the canvas.
Add text to a shape
To add text to a shape, double click and start typing.
You can also turn an existing text box into a shape or sticky note by clicking on the Change Shape option in the Formatting Toolbar and choosing from the options there.
Note: Text Auto-Sizing automatically resizes your text as you type and scales it to fit whenever you expand or collapse the text box.
Add text to a line
To add text to a line, double click on the line to create a text box. From there, you can click and drag to reposition the text box along or adjacent to the line.
Select text
Learn how to quickly highlight a specific portion of text so that it becomes editable.
- Click once on a text box or shape containing text to select it.
- Double-click on an object containing text to select all of the text within the object and enter text editing mode.
- Click again within the text to deselect the text and remain in text editing mode.
- Double-click on a word to select it.

Click three times on a word to select the line containing it.
Style text
Once you have added text to your diagram, you can customize its appearance using the context menu that appears when text is selected.
Change font
Click the font dropdown in the context menu and select a new font.
Note: If you are a Team or Enterprise Admin, upload brand fonts that are available to your entire account. For instructions, check out our Lucid admin panel: Security settings article.
Edit font size
Click the Font size icon and select or type in a new size. If you choose “Auto,” the text will automatically be resized to fit within a shape.
Edit text style
You can add style to text in three ways:
- Select text on the canvas, then choose the Bold, Italic, Underline, or Strikethrough icon from the Context Toolbar.

Select text on the canvas, then use the following keyboard shortcuts:
- Bold: Command/Ctrl + B
- Italics: Command/Ctrl + I
- Underline: Command/Ctrl + U
- Strikethrough: Command/Ctrl + Shift + S

Surround your text with the following symbols to use formatting shortcuts:
- *bold*
- _italics_
- ~strikethrough~

`monospace font`
Edit text color
Click the Text color icon and choose from the color palette.
- To choose a custom color, select the
plus icon and use the slider and cursor to customize a color.
- You can adjust the transparency of a custom color by moving the transparency slider or changing the 100% color saturation from the dropdown menu.
Edit text alignment
Click the Text alignment icon and choose an option from the dropdown menu.
Access list options
Click the List options icon to add bullet points or start a numbered list.
Convert text to code block
Click the Convert to code block icon to convert your text to a code block.
Add an emoji
To add an emoji using text:
- Type a colon (:) followed by a keyword.
- Select an emoji from the menu that appears.
