If you are encountering an issue with sharing in Lucid, following the steps included in this article often resolves the issue. Read on for troubleshooting tips you can try on your own before contacting the support team.
Try basic troubleshooting first
Most problems with sharing are related to browser or network issues. Check out our Basic troubleshooting article for more information. In most cases, the steps outlined in this article will resolve the problem you are having.
Identify the issue
If basic troubleshooting did not solve the problem, use this section to identify the specific issue you are having with sharing in Lucid. Under each of the common issues below is a list of troubleshooting steps that usually resolve the issue. Click the troubleshooting step for more detail.
I am unable to share my document
If you are experiencing issues sharing your Lucid document, try these troubleshooting options:
Verify account settings and sharing permissions
If you experience issues with sharing or editing a document, verify the account settings and sharing permissions are set up properly. If any of the statements below are true, that may be the reason you are encountering a problem.
Sharing a document
- The collaborator’s email address is entered incorrectly.
- You are not the owner of the document you are trying to share.
- Your account’s security settings don’t allow sharing.
Editing a shared document
- You are not logged in to the correct Lucid account.
- You have not been granted edit permissions on the document.
- Your sharing permissions have been revoked.
Check subscription levels
If a collaborator is unable to edit a document that has been shared with them, it may be related to their Lucid subscription. Collaborators can only access features available to them on their plan.
For example, if a user on a Team plan shares a Lucidchart document with a user on a free plan, the free user will not have access to any paid features used in the document. Additionally, if the Lucidchart document has more than 60 objects on the canvas, the free user will not be able to edit the document due to the object limitations on free Lucid accounts.
For information on what each subscription has access to, check out the Lucid Plans article.
FAQ
How can I share my document with someone who does not have a Lucid account?
There are a few options if you want to share your document with someone who does not have a Lucid account:
- Publish or export your document. These features enable you to share the completed version of your document with someone.
- Use Guest Collaborators. This feature allows users without a Lucid account to join collaboration sessions in Lucidspark.
To work with someone on an active Lucid document without using Guest Collaborators, invite them to sign up for a free Lucid account and share your document with them.
Can I require a password for collaborators to access my document?
Yes. If you are on an Enterprise account, you can add a passcode to a shareable link. For more information, check out our Share with collaborators in Lucid article.
How do team folders affect my document’s sharing permissions?
Users will never have fewer permissions to a document or board within a team folder than they do to the team folder itself. Lucid defaults to the highest level of access permissions between the two. For more information, check out our Create team folders article.
