Enterprise features overview
Integrate your Salesforce instance with your Lucid Enterprise account to help your team visualize their path to sale. After some initial setup, Lucid will be accessible directly from Salesforce and all linked documents will be automatically shared with your team to ensure everyone stays aligned.
As the Lucid admin, you can choose which Salesforce data is imported. Your team can then use this data to create account maps—identifying key influencers, roadblocks, and internal relationships. They can also edit Salesforce data and add new Contacts directly in Lucidchart. Everything syncs back to Salesforce, preserving data integrity and eliminating the need to switch between programs.
Features like Contact Kanban and Smart Tables allow your team to group, filter, and sort Contacts, Opportunities, and other key data, making it quicker to build effective account maps. Use these features and more to unlock your Salesforce data and close bigger deals faster.

Technical requirements
Lucid requirements
Although the Salesforce integration is available to all Lucidchart customers, the advanced features and customizations described in this article are only available to Enterprise accounts and require admin setup.
Salesforce requirements
Salesforce Edition: Lucid requires the use of Salesforce’s Web Services API which is included in their Unlimited and Enterprise editions. If you are on the Essentials or Professional edition, you will need to purchase the Web Services API from Salesforce.
Production versus sandbox: Lucid can connect with both production and sandbox instances of Salesforce. Settings and customizations, however, will not be preserved if moving from one instance to another.
Object and field permissions: At minimum, integration users must have permission to view the following Salesforce standard objects and fields. This data is critical to the integration’s functionality in Lucidchart.
- Account: ID, Name
- Contact: ID, Account ID, Last Activity Date, Last Modification Date, Department
- Opportunity: ID, Account ID, Name
- Opportunity Contact Role: ID, Opportunity ID, Contact ID, Role
Salesforce data security and integrity
We understand that your Salesforce data is critical to your company’s success. This section provides a deep-dive into how Lucid’s account mapping integration uses and alters Salesforce data, so you can rest assured that your Salesforce data is secure.
Salesforce OAuth tokens
Lucid never has access to users’ Salesforce credentials or passwords. Instead, the integration uses OAuth to store a secure token for each user, enabling authorized interactions with Salesforce on their behalf. Salesforce tokens are stored indefinitely—using double encryption—until they are deleted manually or the integration is uninstalled on the Lucid account. Even though a token is stored, it may not be valid (e.g. expired or revoked). Token expiration, permissions, and revocation are managed in Salesforce.
Salesforce editing permissions
The integration leverages an OAuth token that’s directly tied to the user. As such, Lucid matches each user’s Salesforce permissions and will never give a user more editing permission than they have in Salesforce. This means if a user can edit Salesforce data from Lucidchart, it’s because they’re allowed to edit it in Salesforce too. Since these permissions are determined in Salesforce and simply respected by Lucidchart, any changes you want to make need to be made in Salesforce.
Field-Level Security settings can be modified in Salesforce to restrict permissions for certain user profiles.
- A field must be “Visible” to be seen within Lucid’s integration.
- A field marked as “Read-Only” won’t be editable within Lucidchart. Be aware, however, that Salesforce user profiles can be set up to allow editing of read-only fields.

Lucidchart document permissions
Your Salesforce data will be imported into Lucidchart documents, which can be shared among Lucid users. The table below outlines how users can see or edit Salesforce data based on their Lucidchart document permission. These document permissions are set in Lucidchart.
| No permission | View or comment permission | Edit permission | |
| How the user received this document permission | The document hasn't been shared with the user. | The document was manually shared with the user with “can view” or “can comment” permission—or with “can edit” permission, but the user doesn’t have a Lucidchart license. | The document was shared with the user with “can edit” permission. Salesforce User Group members automatically get edit access to documents in the Salesforce section of Lucid. |
| User can view Salesforce data on the document’s canvas | No | Yes* | Yes* |
| User can view Salesforce data in the contact details panel | No | No | Yes, as long as the user has a valid Salesforce token** |
| User can view Salesforce data in all other panels (shapes panel, data panel, etc.) | No | No | Yes |
| User can edit the document (including adding, moving, or deleting Salesforce shapes) | No | No | Yes |
| User can edit Salesforce data | No | No | Yes, as long as the user has a valid Salesforce token** |
*The integration may allow users to view data that they cannot in Salesforce. This can be beneficial for keeping your team aligned without having to purchase a Salesforce license for those who solely need to consume the data.
**Refer to Salesforce OAuth tokens and Salesforce editing permissions for more information.
How invalid edits are handled
Edits to Salesforce data are invalid if they do not pass the validation rules set up in Salesforce for preserving data integrity. For example, if an email is entered without the @ symbol, this is an invalid edit. When this happens, the user’s invalid edits will be reverted in Lucid and no changes will be made to the Salesforce data.
Link your Salesforce instance to Lucid
Linking your Salesforce instance to Lucid allows you to:
- Customize the Salesforce integration by importing Accounts, Leads, and more into your Lucidchart documents
- Access Lucid directly from a button in Salesforce
- Use advanced features such as Contact Kanban and creating Contacts within Lucid
To link your Salesforce instance to Lucid, you need to be a Lucid account admin. If you aren’t, contact your company’s Lucid admin. If you are an admin, follow these steps:
- Log into Lucid.
- Select Admin from the bottom of the left-hand menu.
- Click App integration from the left-hand menu.
- From the dropdown options, select Lucidchart.
-
Scroll down and click the Salesforce tile.
-
Select “Production” or “Sandbox” depending on the Salesforce instance you want to connect.
- If you’re unsure which, choose “Production” as that is the most commonly used.
- Click Link instance.
- In a new tab, follow the prompts to log in to Salesforce and allow Lucid to access your Salesforce data.
Once you’re done, you’ll see a message indicating that your Salesforce instance has been successfully linked to Lucid.
We recommend that you enable Salesforce single sign-on so that users can launch Lucid directly from Salesforce without having to manually sign in. To do so:
- From the Lucid admin panel, click Security in the left-hand menu.
- From the dropdown options, select Authentication.
- In the User sign in section, ensure that the "Allow Salesforce single sign-on" box is checked.
- Click Save changes.
Note: While we recommend enabling Salesforce SSO, don’t set this as the default authentication method or only sign in option. To learn more about customizing user sign in for your account, refer to our Lucid admin panel: Security settings article.
Customize the Salesforce integration
Now that the integration is installed, it’s time to customize your settings. To access these settings:
- From the Lucid admin panel, click App integration.
- From the dropdown options, select Lucidchart.
-
In the “Enabled integrations” section, locate the Salesforce tile.
- If you don’t see this tile, follow the instructions to Link your Salesforce instance above.
- On the Salesforce tile, click Settings.
- Along the top, you’ll see tabs for each of the following settings below:
Note: You can complete the actions discussed for each of these tabs in any order you prefer. We have ordered them below based on usage frequency.
Choose contact fields to import
You can choose which Contact fields Lucid will import and display by following these steps:
- Navigate to Lucid’s admin settings for the Salesforce integration.
- Click the Contact fields tab at the top of the page.
- Under the “Available contact fields” list, search for a field name.
- Drag and drop field(s) onto the desired location.
- The order of fields in the “Contact shape” and “Additional details” sections will be respected when the fields are displayed in Lucidchart documents.
- Fields in the “Contact shape” section will appear on the actual contact shape.
- Fields in the “Contact details panel” section will appear in a right-hand panel when a contact shape is selected. You will see three customizable areas: “Notes”, “External link”, and “Additional details”. See the image below to understand where these fields will be displayed to users.
- When you’re finished, click Apply Changes.
You will see these changes take effect on any Salesforce-linked documents the next time you load the Lucidchart document.
Import additional Salesforce objects
Beyond Contacts, you can choose to import additional Salesforce objects (like Account, Opportunities, Leads, etc.) into all your Salesforce-linked Lucidchart documents. To see how your users can view and interact with this data, check out our user walkthrough for Smart Fields.
There are restrictions on which objects can be imported. The Salesforce integration always starts with the Account standard object as the root object. From there, Lucidchart can pull objects that are either children or grandchildren of the Account. Any objects that are more than two levels from the Account will not be available for import. Contacts and Opportunities must be direct children of the Account. In addition, children of the Contact cannot be imported. See the diagram below—green represents the objects that can be imported and red represents those that cannot.
To choose which Salesforce objects and fields are imported:
- Navigate to Lucid’s admin settings for the Salesforce integration.
- Click the Additional objects tab at the top of the page.
- Click Get Started.
-
Search for and select the object(s) you want to import.
- This dialog shows all objects that are available for import. If you don’t see an object you want to import, it’s either because the object falls under the restrictions detailed above or you do not have REST API permissions in Salesforce for the object.
- You can always return to this dialog later if you’d like to import more objects by clicking + Import objects under the “Imported objects” column.
- Once you have finished your selection, click Import.
- To choose which fields are imported on an object, select the object in the “Imported objects” column. It will populate the associated "Available object fields" and "Selected object fields" columns.
- Search for and drag any desired fields from the “Available object fields” column to the “Selected object fields” column.
- The order of the fields in the “Selected object fields” column will be the default field order displayed within Lucidchart documents.
- When you're finished, click Apply Changes.
You will see these changes take effect on any Salesforce-linked document the next time you load the Lucidchart document.
Manage the Salesforce User Group
Lucid offers streamlined document sharing via a Salesforce section in the Lucid documents list. Salesforce User Group members gain automatic access to all documents in this section, which can be opened directly from Salesforce using the Lucidchart Folder button.
Allow users to self-enroll in the Salesforce User Group by following these steps:
- Navigate to Lucid’s admin settings for the Salesforce integration.
- Click the Document management tab at the top of the page.
- Check the box next to “Allow users to add themselves to the group automatically.”
Now, when a user is not yet a member of the Salesforce User Group, clicking the “Lucidchart Folder” button will automatically add them. They will gain access to the Salesforce section and the documents it contains.
If you choose to leave this box unchecked, you will need to manually manage the Salesforce User Group as follows:
- Navigate to Lucid’s admin settings for the Salesforce integration.
- Click on the Document management tab at the top of the page.
- Select the Manage membership button on the right.
- Type the name of one or more users you want to add to the group, or click the X to the right of a user's name to remove them.
- Click Done.
We recommend adding all Sales users to this group—as well as yourself—to ensure everyone has access to the Salesforce section.
Set contact role colors
Lucidchart offers color coding capabilities to help you quickly visualize Opportunity Contact Roles on contact cards.
To customize the color associated with each role:
- Navigate to Lucid’s admin settings for the Salesforce integration.
- Click the Contact role visualization tab at the top of the page.
- Review the Opportunity Contact Roles that exist in your Salesforce instance.
- The values for these roles cannot be modified from Lucid, but if you add or edit roles in Salesforce, the changes will be reflected in Lucid.
- Select the color square to the left of a role to change its associated color.
- Click Apply Changes.
You will see these changes take effect on any Salesforce-linked document the next time you load the Lucidchart document.
Set contact creation rules
Users can create new contacts in Lucidchart that will sync to Salesforce. You can determine which fields are required to be filled out on new contacts by following these steps:
- Navigate to Lucid’s admin settings for the Salesforce integration.
- Click the Contact creation rules tab at the top of the page.
- In the right-hand column, check all fields you want to require.
- We recommend that you select the same fields required to create a new contact in your Salesforce instance.
- You can also require additional fields if you prefer.
- Click Apply Changes.
You will see these changes take effect on any Salesforce-linked document the next time you load the Lucidchart document.
Create a template for account mapping
You may create a custom template to standardize the account maps (or any other Salesforce-related documents) that users on your Lucid Enterprise account are creating. Templates used with the Salesforce integration have special requirements that must be followed. These are:
- The template must be a Lucidchart document. Templates made from a Lucidspark document won’t automatically import Salesforce data when created within a Salesforce folder.
-
Salesforce data is not allowed on the template document. If you accidentally import Salesforce data into your template, it cannot be undone. You can remedy this by creating a new template document, then copying over any shapes that aren’t Salesforce-linked.
- Documents created within a Salesforce folder automatically import Salesforce data. Avoid creating your template document within one of these folders.
- The template should be shared with the Salesforce User Group (at minimum). This will allow any user who can see the Salesforce section in the Lucid documents list to also create new documents from this template.
To learn about creating templates in Lucid, see Create a custom template.
FAQ
Can multiple Salesforce instances be used at the same time?
Lucidchart’s account mapping integration is designed to work with a single Salesforce instance. You cannot link multiple Salesforce instances, nor can you import from multiple instances into the same document.
Unlinking an instance disables the Enterprise-level features described in this article and erases any customizations made (additional objects imported, etc). Members of the Salesforce User Group will retain access to the folders and documents within the Salesforce folder.
What Salesforce field types are supported in Lucid?
Lucid can import and display any Salesforce field that is accessible via the Web Services API. The following field types are supported for editing within Lucidchart:
- Checkbox
- Currency
- Number
- Percent
- Phone
- Picklist
- Picklist (Multi-Select)
- Text
- Text Area
- Text Area (Long)
- Text Area (Rich)
- URL
