Open a template

The Template Gallery is accessible from several locations. Follow the steps below for each access point.

From the Documents page

To open a template from the Documents page:

  1. Navigate to the Lucid Home Page.
  2. Click Templates from the navigation menu on the left-hand side of the page.

From within the Lucid editor

To open a template from within a Lucid document

  1. Select templates-icon-in-lucidspark.png the Templates icon from the Primary Toolbar.
  2. Search or browse to find a template.
    • To view the full template gallery in Lucidchart, click More templates.
  3. Select a template.
  4. Click Use.

Create a custom template

To create a custom template, follow these steps:

  1. Navigate to the Documents page.
  2. Right-click the document or board you want to convert to a custom template.
  3. Hover your cursor over "Organize".
  4. Select Convert to template.
  5.  Choose a template category and add a description for your template.
  6. Click Save.

You will see the word “template” below the document’s name on the Documents page. You can also locate it in the “Created by me” section of the Template Gallery.

To create a new document or board using this custom template, hover your cursor over the template name and click New.

Lucidspark custom templates you create will include all content on the main board, as well as any content on Breakout Boards.

Note: You need to go into your Documents page to see the option to Convert to Template. This option is not available under Recent Documents on the Home Page.

Share a custom template

After you’ve created a custom template, you can share your template with collaborators.

To share a custom template, follow these steps:

  1. Locate the template on your Documents page.
  2. Hover your cursor over the template name and click sharing-options-icon.jpg the Sharing options icon.
  3. Enter your collaborator’s name or email and choose their sharing permissions.
    • You can share the template with all users on the account by typing in your Lucid account name.
  4. Click Share.

This template will appear in your collaborators’ “Shared With Me” folder. They can create a new document or board from this template by hovering over the document or board name and selecting New. If they have edit permissions, they can make changes to the template itself by double-clicking on the template document.

Share a template

From the templates panel in Lucid, you can generate a shareable link that creates a new copy of a template in a collaborator's Lucid documents. To do this:

  1. Click Templates from the navigation on the left-hand side of the Lucid Home Page.
  2. Locate and hover over the template you want to create a link for.
  3. Select eyeball-preview-icon-for-templates.png the Preview icon.
  4. Click copy-link-icon-for-templates.png the Copy Link icon to the right of the template name.
    • For custom templates, you may be prompted to adjust the template's sharing permissions before you can copy the link.
  5. Send the link to a collaborator.

When the link is opened, a new copy of the template will be created and added to the collaborator's Lucid documents.
