Cloud Version Compare lets you see exactly what changed in your cloud environment since the last saved state. After a sync completes, you can open comparison mode from the data management panel to view a color-coded visual—directly highlighting added, removed, and edited resources on your canvas.
Cloud Version Compare is available for accounts with the Cloud Accelerator. Contact sales to purchase the Cloud Accelerator for your Enterprise account.
Compare versions of a cloud diagram
To use Cloud Version Compare, you must first establish a baseline by importing your data, generating a diagram, and refreshing your data source. Once a baseline exists, you can compare your current diagram against that previously imported version. For detailed steps, read our Update and sync data in Lucidscale article.
Once your cloud diagram is synced (or a baseline is established), compare the different versions by following these steps:
- From inside a Lucidscale document, click
the Manage data icon to the right of the document title.
- Select Compare with Previous Version.
From here, you can see any differences in mapped resources between the versions. The canvas displays a color-coded overlay showing:
- Added resources (green): Infrastructure that exists in the current version but not the previous one.
- Modified resources (yellow): Infrastructure present in both versions but with configuration or metadata changes.
- Removed resources (red): Infrastructure that existed in the previous version but has since been deleted.
Click any highlighted resource on the canvas to open the contextual panel on the right. If the resource has configuration updates, the panel displays a side-by-side comparison showing which fields changed and what the previous values were.
FAQ
What counts as a "saved state"?
A new baseline is created each time your data source is refreshed. To view the comparison, your document needs to be synced so the model is up to date with the latest data.
Can I compare any two saved states or only the most recent?
Cloud Version Compare only supports comparisons against the most recent saved state.
What kinds of edits does Cloud Version Compare detect?
Cloud Version Compare detects configuration and metadata changes to existing resources, such as a security group rule update or a tag value change.
If a resource is hidden using document filters, Version Compare will display it as "Not in view".
Why does the number of modified resources in the Summary panel sometimes not match the number highlighted on the canvas?
Certain resource types, such as route tables, can appear in multiple places on the canvas because they can be shown within their VPC, on the boundary of their subnet, or both. Because of this, they may be highlighted multiple times even though the Summary panel counts them once. This is expected behavior. The Summary panel reflects the number of unique modified resources, while the canvas highlights every placement of them.
Is Cloud Version Compare available for freeform diagrams created in Lucidchart?
No. Cloud Version Compare is only available for automatically-generated Lucidscale models.
