Connect Lucid to ChatGPT or Codex

By connecting Lucid with ChatGPT or Codex, you can use natural language to locate and summarize your documents, generate diagrams, and share them with your team. Read this article to learn more.

Set up the connection

The steps to connect ChatGPT with Lucid depends on your ChatGPT account type:

Business or Enterprise ChatGPT users: A ChatGPT organization owner needs to authorize the connection for the entire ChatGPT organization. Once the connection has been authorized, users on the ChatGPT organization can set up the connection for their own account by following the steps in the Connect ChatGPT to your Lucid account section.
Free, Plus, or Pro ChatGPT users: Set up the connection by following the steps in the Connect ChatGPT to your Lucid account section.

Regardless of your ChatGPT account type, if you are on a Team or Enterprise Lucid account, your Lucid admin must first enable the MCP server.

For ChatGPT admins: Authorize ChatGPT to connect with Lucid

ChatGPT organization owners on Business or Enterprise plans must first authorize the Lucid connection at the organizational level before users on their account can establish their own connections. To authorize ChatGPT’s connection with Lucid, follow these steps:

Open ChatGPT or Codex.
Click your name from the bottom-left of the page.
Select Workspace settings.
Select Apps from the navigation menu on the left side.
Under the search bar, select Directory.
Search “Lucid”.
Select Enable to the right of the Lucid app.
Click Publish.

After you’ve enabled Lucid for ChatGPT, users on your account can follow the steps in the Connect ChatGPT to your Lucid account section below to complete the setup.

Note: All apps are enabled by default on Business ChatGPT accounts.

For Lucid admins: Enable the MCP server

If you are an admin on a Team or Enterprise Lucid account, you must first enable the Lucid MCP server by following these steps:

From the Lucid Home Page, select Admin from the menu to the left.
Select Security from the left-hand navigation menu.
Select AI controls from the dropdown options.
Under “MCP access”, use the toggle next to "Allow users to connect”.
Click Enable MCP or Disable MCP in the modal that appears.
Click Save changes in the top-right corner.

Once the MCP server has been enabled in Lucid, users on your account can follow the steps in the Connect ChatGPT to your Lucid account section below to complete the setup.

Connect ChatGPT to your Lucid account

Follow these steps to connect ChatGPT to your Lucid account:

Open ChatGPT or Codex.
Select Plugins from the navigation menu on the left side of the page.
Use the search bar to search for “Lucid”.
Click the plus sign icon on the right side of the “Lucid” tile.
Follow the on-screen prompts to authorize Codex to connect to your Lucid account.

Note: If you encounter an error, the connection may need to be authorized by your ChatGPT or Lucid admin. For more information, check out the Set up the connection section above.

What information can the ChatGPT integration access?
Lucid’s ChatGPT app uses the Lucid MCP server to surface Lucid documents that you have permissions to access. It can access document titles, content, comments, and metadata to provide the LLM with the context it needs to fulfill your request.

Can I edit the diagrams that ChatGPT creates?
Yes. When you ask ChatGPT or Codex to create a diagram, it generates a preview along with the option to open the document in Lucid. In Lucid, you can make edits as needed.
