Set up the Microsoft Graph API (also known as Graph Connectors) to allow users to see, access, and search all documents in their Lucid account from the Microsoft 365 products. Utilize the Lucid Copilot plugin functionality to provide access to Lucid data, which allows Copilot to retrieve Lucid documents.
Plan availability: Team and Enterprise.
- Not available on FedRAMP accounts.
- Read the Lucid Plans article for more information about what is available on your account or the Upgrade your Lucid account article for instructions to upgrade.
For admins: install the Graph API
Both Lucid admin and Microsoft 365 Global Administrator permissions are required to install the Graph API for your account. To install the app:
- Log into your Lucid account.
- Select Admin on the far-left.
- Click App integration in the left-hand menu.
- Select the Microsoft Graph tile.
- Click Start Setup.
- Sign into your Microsoft 365 account.
- On the permissions requested page, select Accept.
- If you receive an error at this step, refer to the troubleshooting subsection below.
- Once documents synchronization shows completed, open the Microsoft Admin dashboard.
- When the link in Microsoft updates from “create connector result” to include connector result, click it.
- Press Ok.
The integration is now set up. See the Microsoft Graph app page in the Lucid admin panel to check the sync status—you’ll see a status bar of a sync in progress or an indication that content is synced.
On this page you can also see any unmatched users on your account. This is a list of all users who don't have access to their Lucid data in Microsoft Graph because they aren’t associated with a corresponding user in Microsoft Graph. Users must log into Lucid using the exact email address that they use in Microsoft 365.
Tip: Navigate to the Microsoft Graph app page in the Lucid admin panel and click Disconnect if you want to remove the link between Lucid and Microsoft Graph.
Troubleshooting: Graph setup error
If you are seeing a “Failed to create external data connection” error page following step 7 of the Graph API instructions above, resolve this issue by completing this step:
- Ensure the admin account has the following permissions in Microsoft:
- microsoft.directory/applications/createAsOwner
- microsoft.directory/applications/create
Navigate to this Microsoft Entra resource for additional information on how to grant these permissions.
Note: Updating these permissions may take up to a day to take effect and resolve the error.

Use the Microsoft Graph integration
To locate a Lucidchart document or Lucidspark board from within Office 365, type keywords into the search bar at the top of the Microsoft Office 365 home page and press “Enter” on your keyboard. Searching the name of an existing Lucid document produces results from which you can select to directly open a Lucid document.
In addition, if you have Microsoft Copilot enabled, Lucid documents synced to Microsoft Graph will be used as the ground knowledge to construct the answer and combine with other sources like your other Microsoft 365 documents.
Note: Only Lucid documents from your Documents or Shared with me menus will appear; documents in team hubs won't be searchable from Office 365. Lucid document search results will appear only under the "All" tab in Office 365.
Use Lucid with the Microsoft Copilot plugin
365 Copilot is a chat-based AI assistant available in Microsoft’s 365 Suite. It is able to answer questions and generate new content based on information available to it in Microsoft 365. This information includes the Lucid user data it sources using the Lucidchart or Lucidspark add-on. With that data, Copilot can provide the options outlined below with the goal of saving time and streamlining workflows.
Enable the Copilot plugin in Microsoft
To enable and use the Copilot plugin, your Microsoft tenant must have a valid Copilot license. Once you have confirmed that it does, follow these steps to enable the Microsoft Copilot plugin:
- Install the Microsoft Teams integration with Lucid.
- Go to the Copilot tab in Microsoft teams, enable the “Lucidchart for Microsoft Teams” plugin.
Retrieve existing Lucid document
In Microsoft Copilot, search keywords from the title or content of a Lucid document. From the results, open the document you’re looking for.
Note: You will need to use “Lucid” in some variation in your search. Simply searching a document name or contents without mentioning “Lucidchart”, “Lucidspark”, or “Lucid” won’t yield a Lucid document as a result.
