The Confluence Cloud integrations will allow you to import your Lucidchart documents, Lucidspark boards, and Lucidscale models into the Confluence Cloud. Read this article to learn more.

For admins: installation and configuration instructions

Only the account owner or account admins on a Team or Enterprise account can install and configure the Lucidchart, Lucidspark, or Lucidscale app in Confluence Cloud.

Follow these steps:

Log in to your Confluence instance as an admin.
Open Settings.
Click Find new apps to navigate to your App Marketplace.
Search “Lucidchart”, “Lucidspark”, or “Lucidscale”.
Select the Lucidchart Diagrams Connector tile, Lucidspark Boards Connector tile, or Lucidscale Models Connector tile.
Click Get app.
In the window that pops up, click Get it now.
In the confirmation message that pops up to let you know you have successfully added the app, click Configure.
Log in to your existing Lucid account, if you are not already logged in.
In the next page of the dialog, click Grant Access to allow Confluence to access your Lucid account.

You will see a confirmation message stating that you have successfully configured the app.

Add a Lucid document to a Confluence page

To add a Lucidchart document, Lucidspark board, or Lucidscale model to a Confluence page, follow these steps:

Log in to Confluence.
Open the page you want to add a Lucid document to.
Click the pencil icon in the upper-right corner of the page.
Click the + icon from the formatting bar at the top of the page.
In the menu that appears, type “Lucid” in the search bar.
Select Lucidchart Diagrams, Lucidscale Models, or Lucidspark Boards.
Hover your cursor over the thumbnail of the document you want to insert and click Select.
- You can also create a new document from the Docs list by clicking + Document in the top-left corner. If you create a new document, it will open in the Lucid editor before displaying on your Confluence page.
Click Update in the top-right corner of your Confluence page.

Note: To add just visibility to your Lucid document for users that are logged into Lucid and have access to the document, you can directly paste a link onto your page. Keep in mind that pasted links have limited capabilities including that they don't inheriting permissions from the Confluence page, can't be edited from the Confluence page, and aren't possible to open in Lucid.

Manage embedded Lucid documents

Edit Lucidspark boards directly from Confluence page

When you embed a Lucidspark board in Confluence Cloud, you can chose from the following access settings that will be available directly in Confluence:

View only: Confluence users can only view the embedded Lucidspark board.
Comment only: Confluence users can view and comment on the embedded Lucidspark board.
Edit: Confluence users can edit the embedded Lucidspark board.

Editing a Lucidspark board directly in Confluence will provide a wide variety of options, such as adding shapes and lines or participating in a visual activity. Edit a document by opening it in Lucid

If you have edit access to a Confluence page with inserted Lucidchart document or Lucidscale model, you can edit those documents in Lucid and your changes will reflect in Confluence.

To edit a Lucid document or model that has already been added to a Confluence page, follow these steps:

In Confluence, open the page with the inserted Lucid document.
Click the pencil icon in the upper-right corner.
Select the inserted diagram you want to edit.
Click the pencil icon in the menu that appears below the diagram.
A window titled “Edit Macro Settings” will open. Click Edit diagram or Edit model.
The document will open in the Lucid editor where you can make changes.
When you are done editing, click Back to Confluence in the top-left corner of the Lucid editor.
Click Update in the upper-right corner of your Confluence page.

Note: If you don't have Auto-Update enabled, you will need to open the “Edit Macro Settings” window and select Update now.

Delete a document from a Confluence page

To delete a document, board, or model that has already been added to a Confluence page, follow these steps:

In Confluence, open the page with the inserted Lucid document.
Click the pencil icon in the upper-right corner.
Hover your cursor over the inserted diagram that you want to delete and click the trash icon in the menu that appears below the diagram.
The diagram will be removed from the page.
Click Update in the top-right corner of your Confluence page.

Note: Removing a diagram from a Confluence page does not delete the diagram from the corresponding Lucid account.

Edit macro settings

To edit the macro settings of an embedded document, follow these steps:

In Confluence, open the page with the inserted Lucid document.
Click the pencil icon in the upper-right of the Confluence page.
Select the embedded Lucid document.
Click the pencil icon in the menu that appears below the embedded diagram.
Click Save after making any changes to the macro settings.

In the “Edit Macro Settings” window, you may see the following options, if you are using the Lucidchart or Lucidscale app:

Edit your diagram.
Toggle between the rich and simple viewers.
Enable Auto-Update for the selected diagram.
Update your embedded diagram with recent changes.
Adjust diagram size.
Adjust diagram orientation.
For Lucidchart documents, under "Advanced viewer options" you will be able to determine the displayed page range (e.g. 2 or 2-3).

If you are using Lucidspark, the "Edit Macro Settings" window will look different. You can change the access settings between Edit, Comment only, or View only. If you select "View only", you will be able to chose between simple and rich viewer and turn auto-update on and off. If you select "Comment only" or "Edit", document updates can be made directly in Confluence so rich viewer and auto-update are automatically included and can't be disabled.

Note: It is only possible to enable auto-update on an individual diagram basis. Enabling this feature allows you to automatically push changes from the Lucid editor to the documents displayed in Confluence.

Simple versus rich viewer

There are two viewers available for displaying Lucid documents in Confluence Cloud: simple and rich. The simple viewer provides a static PNG of the diagram, while the rich viewer provides full interactivity with Lucid.

You can switch between the simple and rich viewers for a specific document in the macro settings modal.

Simple viewer

When viewing a diagram displayed with the simple viewer, you will be able to zoom in and out of it using the magnifying glass icons in the bottom-right, and pan through it by clicking and dragging your cursor over the embedded diagram.

If it is a Lucidchart diagram that contains multiple pages, you can scroll through them by clicking on the arrows that appear on the sides.

Rich viewer

In addition to the functionality associated with the simple viewer, the rich viewer allows you to see and interact with any pages, hotspots, and notes associated with the embedded diagram (offerings will differ depending on the Lucid app you are using).

You can disable these features from the viewer by clicking on the gear icon in the bottom-right of the diagram and unchecking the option.

FAQ

Who can view and edit Lucid documents that have been embedded onto a Confluence page?Viewing permissions for Lucid documents in Confluence Cloud will be inherited from the Confluence page. This means if you can view a Confluence page, you will be able to view the documents on the Confluence page, regardless of whether or not you have a Lucid account.

The Lucidchart app in Confluence pulls editing permissions from the Confluence page. This means if you can view and edit a Confluence page and are a licensed Lucid user, you will be able to view and edit the diagrams in the Lucid app. In order to edit your Lucidchart document, follow the steps outlined in the Edit macro settings section above, and then select Edit diagram.

The Lucidspark app in Confluence also pulls editing permissions from the Confluence page. If you can edit a Confluence page, you can edit the boards embedded on it.

The Lucidscale app in Confluence require that you have both editing access in Confluence and editing access on the embedded Lucidscale model in order to edit the document in Confluence.

Why am I seeing white margins around my embedded Lucid documents in Confluence?

Some white space around your document can be normal when inserting documents in Confluence. Refer to this White space on inserted diagrams community post (in English) for instructions on how to optimize the appearance of your embedded documents.

Why am I stuck in a login loop when trying to access the integration?
If you experience a login loop where you are continuously prompted to log in to Lucid when using this integration, it is most likely due to 3rd party cookies being blocked for your browser. Reference our Troubleshooting: Enable third-party cookies article for details on how to change that setting so they are no longer blocked.

Why am I receiving a “You are not on a team associated with this instance” error?
This error means your specific user is likely connected to the incorrect Lucid account. To fix this, follow these steps:

Log in to your Lucid account that is currently incorrectly linked to Confluence.
Click your profile image or initials in the top-right corner of your Lucid account.
Select Account Settings.
Select Apps & Integrations from the left-side menu.
Check the box next to “Confluence”.
Click the Remove button. This will disconnect the account.
To re-establish the correct connection, log out of Lucid.
Insert any Lucid document into a Confluence page.
When prompted to log in to Lucid, make sure you are logging in with the email associated with your organization's Lucid account.

What if my diagram is not displaying correctly?
If you are having issues with the diagram viewer displaying or the documents list displaying when trying to insert a diagram, check the following:

Your Confluence instance may be being blocked by some sort of extension. Try opening Confluence in an incognito or private window to verify if this is the case.
You may need to enable third party cookies, as explained in our Troubleshooting: Enable third-party cookies article.
If you recently migrated to Confluence Cloud from another instance, you will need to re-insert your previously inserted documents in order to have them display correctly. Refer to our Migrate Lucid documents in Confluence article for details.

What happens to the account wide Confluence connection if the admin who initially set it up leaves?
If your admin leaves, the connection will remain active, as it is established at the account level. Admin permissions are only required during the initial setup process to create the connection.
