Record video in Lucid

Combining Lucidchart, Lucidspark, or Lucidscale with the power of Zight or Loom further enables your team to bring clarity and speed to visual work. Embed or play video recordings in your Lucidchart documents, Lucidspark boards, or Lucidscale documents with confidence.

Record and add video to ensure your message, tone of voice, direction or explanation is captured—all without a long winded email or unnecessary meetings to accompany your Lucid content. Read on to learn more about how to record a video in Lucid.

Record video with Loom

Start recording

You can record a video from a Lucidchart document, Lucidspark board, or Lucidscale document. To do so, follow these steps from the workspace of your choice:

  1. Select loom-video-icon-in-lucid.png the video icon in the upper-right corner of the canvas.
    • If this is the first time you have recorded a video, read and agree to Terms and Conditions before clicking Get Started. Then, follow the prompts to allow access to your device’s microphone and camera. You will only need to do this once.
  2. Select Loom.
  3. In the window that appears, set the “Video settings” and “Recording settings” using the respective drop-down menus.

    • Click Show advanced settings to access more options like enabling a Recording Countdown.
  4. Select Start recording.
  5. Choose what to record. You can select the entire screen, a specific window, or a Chrome tab.
  6. Click Share to start recording. A countdown will appear which indicates when the recording will start.

Once you begin recording, your image will appear in the lower-left corner of your screen alongside a control panel. You can reposition where your image appears in the recording by clicking and dragging it to a new area of the screen.

Manage recording

You can use the control panel found in the bottom-left corner of the workspace to manage your recording.

From this control panel, you can:

  • Finish recording (select the red square)
  • Pause the recording
  • Cancel and delete the recording

After you finish recording, a window will appear where you can:

  • review-loom-recording-in-lucid.png review the recording.

  • delete-loom-video-in-lucid-and-exit.png delete the video and exit.
  • copy-loom-video-link.png copy the video link to view on Loom.

Select Insert recording to add the recording into your Lucid diagram. See the Manage video in Lucid section for information on using the video after it’s been inserted.

Add emoji reactions and comments

From the panel across the bottom of a Loom video shape, you and collaborators can leave emoji reactions and add comments directly to the video. All emojis and comments will appear in the recording at the time stamp they were added.

Note: The emoji reactions and comments functionality described here is a part of the Loom integration and is separate from Lucid's comment feature.

  • To add an emoji reaction, click a reaction as the video is playing.
  • To add a comment, select the Comments icon and type your message.

To review and reply to comments, select the View Comments icon in the upper-right corner of the video shape.

You can:

  • Add a new comment by clicking the text box, typing your comment, and pressing the “Enter” key on your keyboard.
  • Respond to a comment by selecting Reply.
  • Remove a comment by clicking Delete.

Record video with Zight

Start recording

You can record a video from a Lucidchart document, Lucidspark board, or Lucidscale document using Zight (formerly CloudApp). To do so, follow these steps from the workspace of your choice:

  1. Select loom-video-icon-in-lucid.png the video icon in the upper-right corner of the canvas.
    • If this is the first time you have recorded a video, read and agree to Terms and Conditions before clicking Get Started. Then, follow the prompts to allow access to your device’s microphone and camera. You will only need to do this once.
  2. Select Zight.
  3. In the window that appears, set the “Video settings” and “Recording settings” using the respective drop-down menus.

  4. Select Record screen as video.
  5. Choose what to record. You can select the entire screen, a specific window, or a Chrome tab.
  6. Click Share to start recording. A countdown will appear which indicates when the recording will start.

Once you begin recording, your image will appear in the lower-left corner of your screen alongside a control panel. You can reposition where your image appears in the recording by clicking and dragging it to a new area of the screen.

Manage recording

You can use the control panel found in the bottom-left corner of the workspace to manage your recording.

From the control panel, you can:

  • End the recording
  • Pause the recording
  • Restart the recording
  • Delete the recording

After you finish recording, a window will appear where you can:

Select Save to insert your video into your Lucid diagram. It will appear as a shape on your canvas. See the Manage video in Lucid section for information on using the video after it’s been inserted.

Manage video in Lucid

Once you have inserted the video, you can:

  • Play the video by clicking the play icon.
  • Reposition the video by clicking and dragging.
  • Resize the video shape by clicking and dragging from a side or edge of the shape.

FAQ

The video icon is grayed out and I cannot select it. Why?
Please ensure you are using an up-to-date and compatible browser. Recording video in Lucidchart, Lucidspark, or Lucidscale with Zight or Loom is compatible with Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, and Brave.

I am unable to select Zight on Firefox. Why?
Zight is not supported on Firefox. You will need to use a different browser that is compatible with Zight.

Do I need to enable third-party cookies to record a video in Lucidchart, Lucidspark, or Lucidscale?
