Parent card overview
A parent card is a Lucid Card imported from Jira or Azure DevOps that has child work items (Lucid cards that are dependent on a parent card) attached to it in your work management system. With parent cards, you can:
- Visualize the total progress of all attached child items using the progress bar on the face of the card.
- View and import attached child items.
- View unestimated child items and assign them story points.
Import cards from Jira or Azure DevOps
To start, you’ll need to import at least one item from Jira or Azure DevOps Cards that has child items attached to it in your work management system. To import cards, follow the steps in our Integrate Lucid Cards with Jira or Integrate Lucid Cards with Azure DevOps Cloud help center articles.
View progress of child items
When you import a parent card into Lucidspark, a progress bar automatically appears on the card’s face. You can choose what is measured on the progress bar by following these steps:
- Select a parent card on the board.
- Click
the Edit details icon from the context menu that appears.
- Select
the Integration settings icon from the top-right corner of the panel that appears.
- Under “Parent Cards”, select an option:
- Sum of child effort: The progress bar displays the amount of completed effort or story points relative to the total assigned to all child work items.
- Number of work items: The progress bar displays the number of completed child work items relative to the total, regardless of effort or story points assigned to each item.
Import child items
After you’ve imported a parent card into Lucid, you can import any related child items into Lucid directly from the card face by following these steps:
- Select a parent card on the board.
- Click # Children from the bottom-left corner of the card.
- The “#” indicates the number of child items.
- Click Import to the right to specific items or Import all from the bottom-right corner to import all child items.
Estimate child items
After you’ve imported a parent card into Lucid, you can assign effort or story points to child items directly from the parent card face, without needing to import them into the Lucidspark board. To do this, follow these steps:
- Select a parent card on the board.
- Click # Unestimated from the bottom of the card.
- The “#” indicates the number of unestimated child items.
- To the right of each item, use the plus and minus buttons or type a numeric value into the text entry box.
Instead of estimating child items one by one, you can click Estimate all in the bottom-right corner of the “Unestimated work items” panel. This places all unestimated items into a Frame on the board so you can Align on task estimation with your team.
