Date-based fields in airfocus allow you to track durations and specific points in time for your items. These fields—such as date range and milestone—are essential for features like the Gantt and Timeline views, enabling you to visualize your roadmap and manage project schedules effectively.
Read this article to learn how to add date-based fields to your workspace and how to use them to define milestones and project durations.
Add a date-based field
To add a new date-based field to your workspace, follow these steps:
- Click the three-dot menu to the right of your workspace title.
- Select Settings.
- Select Fields from the tabs at the top of the settings panel.
- Click + Add field from the bottom of the navigation menu on the left side.
- Choose your field type:
- Date range: Use this for tasks with a start and end date.
- Date: Use this for single points in time.
- Sprint: Use this for work tied to a specific delivery cycle.
- Milestone: Use this for critical events or achievements during a project.
- Add a name and description.
- Customize your field with any other options that appear in the settings. These options vary by field type.
- Click Add field.
Here is an example of how each date field appears in a Table view. Sprint and Milestone fields show the specific date or date range when you hover your cursor over them.
Add a sprint
In airfocus, sprints represent specific time intervals used to group and track work. To assign an item to a sprint:
- Add a Sprint field by following the steps in the section above.
- Open an item in your workspace by selecting it.
- Click Empty to the right of “Sprint” on the right side of the panel that appears.
- Select a sprint.
- To add an additional sprint as an option, you'll need to edit the Sprint field settings.
Add a milestone
In airfocus, milestones represent significant events or critical achievements. To add a milestone:
- Add a Milestone field by following the steps in the section above.
- Open an item in your workspace by selecting it.
- Click Empty to the right of “Milestone” on the right side of the panel that appears.
- Select an existing milestone or click Field settings to create a new one.
- Use field settings to customize the appearance of your milestones. From there, you can assign specific icons and colors to help them stand out in your views.
Milestones are linked to individual items. When you add a milestone to an item, it will automatically appear alongside that item in any Timeline or Gantt view.
Time period fields
Time period fields are similar to date range fields but have some additional features and benefits. Both options can be used for timeline or Gantt views. While date-based fields pinpoint specific moments, time period fields capture broader durations like quarters or fiscal years.
