If you are encountering an issue with storage in Lucid, following the steps included in this article often resolves the issue. Read on for troubleshooting tips you can try on your own before contacting the support team.

Storage basics

Accounts in Lucid have different amounts of storage depending on their subscription level. See the chart below for details.

*Enterprise accounts, including those on the FedRAMP environment, have 5 GB of storage per user per product. Because Lucid Suite licenses include both Lucidchart and Lucidspark, these accounts total to 10 GB of storage per user.

To locate your subscription level and storage usage, follow these steps:

Click your profile image or initials in the top-right corner of your Lucid account.
Select Account Settings.
- Your subscription level is listed under “Plans & Billing”.
- Your storage usage is located at the bottom-left of the page under the navigation menu. Hover your cursor over the storage bar to see what each portion of the storage represents.

Note: Storage is shared by all users on an account. For example, on a Team account with three users, the entire account has 3 GB to share. It is not distributed evenly across the three users.

Troubleshooting steps

If you are experiencing an issue with your account’s storage or have run out of space, the troubleshooting steps below usually resolve the issue.

Delete unnecessary documents and empty trash

Delete unnecessary documents
The first step in gaining more storage space is to delete documents you no longer need.

To do this:

Open lucid.app.
Click Documents from the navigation menu on the left-hand side of the page.
Select one or more documents.
Click the three-dot More menu from the bottom-right corner of one of the selected thumbnails.
Select Move to Trash.

Empty trash
Lucid keeps items in your account’s trash until you delete them permanently from the trash folder. Until the documents are deleted permanently, they affect your account’s storage.

To empty your trash:

Open lucid.app.
Select Trash from under the “Documents” dropdown in the left-hand navigation.
Click Empty trash from the top-right corner of the page.
Select Delete Forever.

Delete images

For documents you are still using and need to keep, the next step in gaining more storage is to delete unnecessary images from your documents. Images often take up the most storage space, and removing images you don’t need decreases the amount of storage used on your account.

To delete images from a document:

Open a Lucid document from the “Documents” folder located at lucid.app.
Select one or more images from the workspace.
Press the “Delete” or “Backspace” key on your keyboard.
- Alternatively, right-click the selected image or images, then click Delete.

To free up additional space, you may also need to delete images from the Image Manager. To do this:

Open a Lucidchart document.
Select the File menu from the menu bar.
Hover your cursor over "Settings".
Click Image manager.
Select one or more images to delete by checking the box in the top-left corner of the thumbnail.
Click the trash can icon from the top-right of the Image Manager.
Select Delete.

You need to complete these steps for both Lucidchart and Lucidspark. To remove images you've added to Lucidspark, repeat the steps above by opening a Lucidspark board and switching to Lucidchart using universal canvas.

Note: Deleting an image from the Image Manager will remove the image from any Lucid documents it has been uploaded to.

Check revision history

If you are on a Team or Enterprise account, you have access to Lucid’s revision history feature. To maintain your access to past edits, revision history uses storage space on your account.

To decrease the amount of storage being used by revision history, copy and paste the contents of a Lucid document into a new one. After doing this, you can delete the original document, which also deletes all previously saved edits from revision history. To copy content into a new document:

In a Lucid document, select and copy all your content.
In a separate browser tab, create a new Lucid document.
Paste the content into the new document.
Delete the original document.
- Be sure to delete it from the trash folder as well.

FAQ

Do documents shared with me affect my storage?
No. The used storage on your account is affected only by documents you own. However, if you add an image to a shared document, the image counts toward your storage usage.

I’m getting an error that says “The document’s creator has filled their allowed space”. What does this mean?
This means you are editing a document that has been shared with you, and the owner of the document has met the storage limits for their account type. To continue editing, you can ask the document’s owner to upgrade their account or you can make a duplicate of the document.
