Convert Gliffy to Lucidchart in Confluence

Confluence Cloud

In Confluence Cloud, you can opt to convert Gliffy diagrams to Lucidchart documents for a specific Confluence page or for an entire Confluence space. Refer to the appropriate section below for instructions.

Confluence Page conversion

When you're on a specific page in Confluence, you can convert Gliffy macros to Lucidchart macros following these steps:

1. In page view mode, click the three-dot menu icon in the top-right corner of the page.
2. In the displayed menu, click Apps.
3. Select Convert Gliffy Diagrams.
4. On the page that appears, click Submit.

You will be directed back to the Confluence page after the conversion is complete. All previous Gliffy diagrams will now be replaced with Lucidchart diagrams.

Documents are also uploaded to a new folder within the admin’s Lucid account called “Converted from [Confluence Cloud URL]”.

Confluence Space conversion

To convert all of the Gliffy diagrams within an entire Confluence space to Lucidchart documents at once, follow these steps:

1. Click the gear icon in the top-right corner of Confluence.
2. On the Site administration page, scroll down to the Lucidchart add-on section in the left-hand menu.
3. Select Mass Gliffy Conversion.
4. Click Search to locate the Gliffy diagrams on your Confluence instance.
   • You will now see results for all the Confluence spaces in which Gliffy macros were found.
     
5. Click Convert for each space. 
   • This will convert all Gliffy diagrams to Lucidchart documents in the respective space.
     
     

You will be directed back to the Confluence page after the conversion is complete. All previous Gliffy diagrams will now be replaced with Lucidchart diagrams.

Documents are also uploaded to a new folder within the admin’s Lucid account called “Converted from [Confluence Cloud URL]”.

Confluence Data Center

Confluence Data Center offers the option to convert all Gliffy diagrams to Lucidchart documents for your space.

1. Click the gear icon in the top-right corner of Confluence.
2. Select Add-ons from the dropdown menu that appears.
3. Click Lucidchart Plugin Configuration in the left-hand menu.
4. Select the Mass Gliffy Import tab.
5. Click Search to locate the Gliffy diagrams on your Confluence instance.
6. Select Convert.

Documents are uploaded to a new folder within the admin’s Lucid account called “Converted from [Confluence Data Center URL]”.

Revert a converted document

To revert a diagram back to Gliffy that you have converted to Lucidchart, follow these instructions:

1. Click the three-dot menu icon in the right-hand corner of your Confluence page.
2. Select Page History.
3. Select a version of the Confluence page from before the conversion.
4. Restore that version. 

After the restore, you should see the macro as a Gliffy diagram again.

FAQ

Why am I not seeing the option to convert my Gliffy diagrams to Lucidchart documents in Confluence?
The option to convert your diagrams from Gliffy to Lucidchart will not appear if any of the following apply:

• There are no Gliffy diagrams on the page.
• The current user doesn't have edit permissions to the page.
• The Lucidchart add-on has no license or has an expired license.

Who can view and edit Lucid documents that have been embedded onto a Confluence Cloud page?
Viewing and editing permissions are set up when a Lucid document is embedded into Confluence. The permissions apply to anyone accessing the Lucid document via Confluence.

If a Confluence user doesn't have a Lucid account, they will only be able to view the embedded Lucid document from the Confluence page, even if the embed permissions are set to Edit or Comment.

Who can view and edit Lucid documents that have been embedded onto a Confluence Data Center page?
Viewing and editing permissions for Lucid documents in Confluence will be inherited from the Confluence page. This means if you can view and edit a Confluence page and are a licensed Lucid user, you will be able to view and edit the diagrams on the Confluence page. 

If a user is a member of your Confluence instance but does not have a Lucid account, they will still be able to view diagrams on the Confluence page that have been inserted by other users.

Why am I seeing a permissions error when trying to convert diagrams from Gliffy to Lucidchart in Confluence?
When you have Confluence spaces marked as private, the Lucidchart plugin, which has a user created on the Confluence instance, needs to be given permission to view and edit a space in order to convert Gliffy diagrams in that space. See Atlassian’s help article on space permissions.

Are images inserted in my Gliffy diagrams converted to my Lucidchart document in Confluence?
Most images will be converted; however, GIFs from Gliffy diagrams are not converted.

Can I convert diagrams in Confluence OnPrem?
Lucidchart ceased support for Lucidchart OnPrem for Confluence on January 6, 2021. 

Why does my converted diagram show an older version?
If a Gliffy macro points to a particular version, that is the version that will be converted.

My spaces aren’t appearing after I click Search or Refresh?
Try resizing your browser window to be larger. This should allow the spaces to display properly.
