You can add comments in Lucid to communicate with collaborators whether you’re online at the same time or need to leave a note for later. Assign a task to a specific collaborator to notify them via email.

Add comments from Comments panel

Commenting is available in Lucidchart, Lucidspark, and Lucidscale. Assigning tasks is not available in Lucidscale.

Add a comment to a shape

To add a comment to a specific shape from the Comments panel:

Select a shape on the canvas to attach a comment to.
Click the Comment icon in the upper-right corner of the canvas to access the Comments panel.
Click the Plus icon in the upper-left side of the Comments panel.
In the panel that appears, type a message.
To assign a comment to a specific collaborator, follow the steps in the section below.
Select Comment or press the “Enter” key on your keyboard.

A comment icon will appear above or near the shape you selected. To open the thread, select the Comment icon near the object it was added to.

If you reply to a comment and create a thread, the original commenter will receive an email notification of your response.

Add a comment to the canvas

To add a comment to the overall Lucidchart or Lucidspark canvas:

Click the Comment icon in the upper-right corner of the canvas to access the Comments panel.
Click the Plus icon in the upper-left side of the Comments panel.
Select an area of the canvas to add the comment to.
In the panel that appears, type a message.
- To assign a comment to a specific collaborator, follow the steps in the section below.
Select Comment or press the “Enter” key on your keyboard.

A comment icon will appear on the selected area of the canvas. To open the thread, select the Comment icon.

Assign a task

To assign a comment to a specific collaborator in a Lucidchart diagram or Lucidspark board:

Follow the instructions above to add a comment to a shape or the canvas.
Check the box next to "Assign Task”.
- Select the collaborator icon to add or delete assignees.
Click Assign.

To complete a task, check the box next to the assignee’s name. The task will appear in the “Completed” section of the Comments panel.

Add comments from a shape or text field

You can quickly leave a comment and notify a tagged collaborator all at once by @ mentioning a user from a shape or text field in a Lucidchart diagram or Lucidspark board. To do so, follow these steps:

Click into a shape or text field.
Type in “@” followed by the email address of a collaborator on the document.
Click out of the shape or text field by clicking on the canvas.

Your comment will be added and the collaborator you tagged will be notified via email.

Note: Comments and tasks do not appear in exported versions of Lucid documents.

Review and manage all comments from the Comments panel

To review all comments on a document—including all Resolved comments—select the Comment icon in the upper-right corner of the workspace to open the Comments panel.

From the Comments panel, you can:

Filter by “All comments and tasks” or “Just mine”.
Sort by “Newest to oldest” or “Oldest to newest”.
Click a comment or task from the Comments panel to navigate to its location in the document.

Select Resolve thread to delete a comment or task from the document.
