This article walks through the Lucidchart functionality accessible within Quip. Additionally, existing hotspots, linked data, conditional formatting rules, and layers will function in Quip, but cannot be created in Quip. Revision History, Presentation Mode, ERD Import, AWS Import, UML Import, and Visio Import cannot be accessed in Quip—you must go to Lucidchart directly to use them.

Edit a Lucidchart document from Quip
From Lucidchart diagrams inserted in Quip, you can edit the diagram directly from Quip using the embedded editor, which is a simplified version of the Lucidchart editor. If you want access to the full functionality of the Lucidchart editor, simply click Open in Lucidchart to open your document in Lucidchart.
Access shapes
On the left of the embedded editor is the toolbox, which contains your shape libraries.
You can open and close the toolbox by clicking the shapes icon in the top left. Standard, flowchart, and geometric shapes will display by default, but you can easily enable more complex shape libraries by clicking + More Shapes and checking the box next to your desired library. When you are done adding new libraries, click Done.
Rearrange your shape libraries by dragging and dropping them, minimize or expand them by clicking on the triangle to the left of their names, and remove them by clicking the X to the right.
Diagramming basics
Add an object
To add an object to your diagram, drag and drop it from the toolbox onto the canvas. To add text to an object, double click on it and start typing.
Resize or rotate an object
When an object is selected, you can resize it by dragging the handles on its borders and rotate it by dragging the curved arrow icon in the object’s top left corner.
Add a line to an object
Add a connection line to an object by clicking on one of the red circles that appear around the object’s sides. After releasing the cursor, you will automatically be prompted to add a second object to the end of the connection line. If you do not want to add a second object, simply click anywhere on the canvas.
Edit and style your diagram
Underneath the menu options is the properties bar, which will allow you to edit specific aspects of your diagram.
- Undo or redo your last action by clicking the arrows.
- Resize and style your text.
- Change the color of lines and objects
- Format lines
To add a new page to your document, click the plus sign at the bottom of the editor. Zoom in and out of your diagram with the zoom bar at the bottom-right.
Add comments
You can add comments to objects and documents in Quip. Please note that when you add comments to the embedded editor, you will not be able to view these comments in Lucidchart. Similarly, any comments that you add to documents in the Lucidchart editor will not be visible in Quip.
To add a comment to an object:
- Right-click on an object.
- Select Add Comment.
- Type your comment.
- Click Send.
You can also add comments to entire documents by clicking on the top left of the editor.
The object will be flagged with ; click this icon to view the comment, and click Archive to remove it or Close to escape from the comment view.
FAQ
Why can I not view inserted Lucidchart diagrams (blank frame)?

Why aren’t my images appearing in my inserted org chart?
Images that were inserted in Lucidchart using URLs will not be able to display in Quip. Please upload the images to Lucidchart directly and then they will be able to display in Quip.
