Use Lucidchart on the iOS mobile app

Sign in to the app

Once you download the app, tap Log In and type the email and password you used to create the account. If you utilize a single sign-on method, the app supports:

• Google
• Apple
• Microsoft 365

To sign in using another SSO, tap to type your email into the username field, leave the password field blank, and tap Next. Our app will automatically redirect you to your SSO login platform where you can log in using your existing credentials.

Access documents on the app

Once you have signed into your account, you will be automatically directed to your mobile documents page. On the bottom of the page, you can see a banner indicating various buttons to features within the app. These buttons include:

• My Documents
  • Access documents in order of recent usage. At any time within the app, you can tap this button to return to your documents list.
• Team Folders
  • If you are part of a Team account, you have access to those team folders to which you have been added. Within a single folder, you can open the documents list for that folder.
• Recent
  • See the most recently viewed or edited documents in your account. If you have shared folders or documents on your account, this view will also show you which documents have been most recently opened or updated by others on the account.
• Shared With Me
  • View folders and documents that have been created by other users and shared with you.
• Search
  • Search for specific documents, folders, or shared files using keywords that can be found in the file or the file title.

Navigate the Lucidchart iOS app

Tap the Avatar icon to access options for customizing the app, accessing account details, providing feedback, and learning more about Lucid. You can:

• Access settings
  • View your account email address, enable/disable push notifications on your mobile device, view your mobile storage usage, and your account level.
  • If your account level indicates that you are on a “Free” account, but you have already paid for a subscription, simply tap the orange wording below the account type for assistance in locating your subscription.
• Recover from Trash
  • See deleted documents or folders.
  • Files will remain recoverable for only 7 days after being deleted.
• Get Support
  • Having trouble using the app? This button creates an automatic email template for you to contact support for assistance with any issues you may be experiencing.
• Send Feedback
  • Use this option to share suggestions for how to improve the Lucidchart iOS experience.
• Review our Privacy Policy
  • We take your privacy seriously. Read Lucidchart’s Privacy Policy to learn more about data collection, uses, and disclosure of your personal information.
• Log Out
  • Click here to log out of your Lucidchart account within the app.

Tap the Plus icon to:

• Import: browse and import files from your mobile device.
• Create Blank Diagram: create a new document.
• Create From Template: browse our Template Gallery to create a new document using an existing Lucidchart template.
• Create Folder: organize your documents or projects into folders.

The app also features different layouts for iPhone and iPad use. Certain views within the app may look different on the display depending on the device.

Edit a document on the app

The app allows you to create new documents or edit existing documents with the mobile editor. The mobile editor is similar to the web editor, offering many of the same tools and functionality.To use the mobile editor, open a new or existing Lucidchart document.

The mobile editor features two toolbars: one at the top of the document viewer, and one at the bottom. The bottom toolbar includes buttons to access comments on your document, tips for using the various editing tools, the shape library, the page and document settings, and a full-screen view function.

• Tapthe Comments icon to view comments made on the document.
  • In this section, you will see Active Comments, which are live comments that have not been resolved. Active comments can be responded to within the app by typing in the box labeled Type a response, or resolved by tapping Resolve comment. Once a comment is resolved, you can find it under the Resolved Comments. Comments you have made on your document can be located under the My Comments tab.
  • To start a new conversation in a document, simply tap a shape on which you wish to comment and tap Start a new conversation. This will allow you to create a new comment on an existing shape.
• Tapthe Paintbrush icon to change the style of shapes and text.
  • Style options for shapes may include changes to border color and style, line weight, shape fill, corners, and opacity. Similarly, text editing can also be found in this tab, allowing you to change color, justification, emphasis, and font of text.
• Tapthe Shapes icon to add shapes.
  • The shapes tab consists of the shape library specific to your template or chart.
  • Tap a shape to add it to your diagram and adjust it by dragging the shape or making it smaller using the arrows that appear in the corner.
  • To add a shape library or additional shapes to your current library, tap Manage on the right side of the shape toolbar. Here you can choose from various shape libraries by tapping the checkmark on the right side of the list, or by locating the specific library or shape you wish to add to your document editor by using the search function.
    • While most shape libraries offer full mobile functionality, some more advanced shape libraries such as Org Charts, Tables, and ERD have limited mobile support. We recommend using the web version of Lucidchart to access the full functionality of advanced shape libraries.
  • You can also add images to your document by tapping the camera icon on the right side of the shape toolbar. Once you have done so, an option to “choose photo” or “take photo” will appear.
• Tapthe Wrench icon to access Page Settings.
  • The page settings tab allows you to adjust the specific style elements of the general page. You can adjust the page size, change the page orientation, enable/disable auto pagination, change the background fill color, enable/disable the grid, adjust grid spacing, enable/disable snap to grid, enable/disable margins, adjust margin size, and change page units.

• Tap the Arrows icon to open the Full Screen View.
  • The final icon on the bottom toolbar is the full-screen view. By tapping this icon, the toolbars will disappear, and the document can be viewed in a full-screen mode. To exit, tap the arrows in the bottom right corner to return to standard view. 

The upper toolbar of the mobile editor screen allows you to collaborate with others, share your document, export, view different pages, and undo changes to the document.

• Tapthe Collaborating and Sharing icon to add collaborators to the document. By entering their email—or if you are on a Team account, their name or group name—you can share the document with collaborators. Once the email has been entered correctly, choose the designated access you would like them to have (can edit & share, can edit, can comment, or can view) and tap “share.”
• You can also share via direct link by tapping Get shareable link. You can also set the desired access by tapping Create link to generate the unique URL for the document.
• To export a document or a page of a document, tap the Export icon, choose the file type of your choice, and tap Export, where you can choose the desired location of your exported document.
• Easily toggle between pages by tapping the Pages icon for easy viewing and editing. You can also delete, rename, or duplicate a page.
• Undo the most recent change to the document by tapping the arrow icon.

Edit lines, shapes, and text

• Lines:
  • To delete a line, press the line and tap the trash can icon.
  • To resize a line, press the line, tap any of the + icons on the line, and drag the line to the desired size.
  • To add text, press the line and tap the text icon. You can adjust the placement of the text by dragging it to another location on the line.
  • To adjust the style of the line, press the line and tap the paintbrush icon on the bottom toolbar. You can adjust the line weight, color, opacity, style, arrow, and shape.
• Shapes:
  • To delete a shape, press the shape and tap the trash can icon.
  • To rotate the shape, press the shape, find the icon of two alternating arrows in the upper right corner of the shape, and drag the shape in the direction of your choice.
  • To add a line from a shape, press the shape and tap any of the icons.
  • To resize a shape, press the shape, tap the diagonal arrow in the bottom right corner of the shape, and drag the shape to the desired size.
  • To copy, duplicate, reorder, or lock a shape (or shapes), press the shape until a popup menu appears.
  • To add text to a shape, tap the shape and tap the paintbrush icon on the bottom toolbar. Tap the Text tab, where you can adjust the color, style, justification, and font of the text.
• To highlight all objects on the canvas, press one object on the document until a popup menu appears and then tap Select all.

Troubleshoot common issues

Apple Stylus

While you cannot currently use the Apple Stylus Pen to draw directly on the Lucidchart canvas, the stylus can be used to create diagrams through the standard drag and drop interface by holding down the button to pan across the canvas.

Hotspots and Links

The Lucidchart iOS app does not currently support hotspot and link functionalities. Links and hotspots on existing documents will be visible in the iOS app, but their redirect actions will be disabled.

Layers

Layers are not currently supported in the Lucidchart iOS app. Multi-layered documents will automatically show all layers when opened in the app.

Revision History

Revision history is not currently supported in the Lucidchart iOS app. To recover a previous version of a document, you will need to open it in the Web version of Lucidchart and restore it there. You will then be able to access the restored version in the iOS app.
