Get started with the Lucidchart add-on for Gmail
The Lucidchart add-on for Gmail allows you to easily attach your diagrams to emails. With this add-on, you can:
- Access recent Lucidchart documents via the add-on panel in Gmail.
- Search and preview a document directly within the Gmail integrations tab and create a new email, attaching your diagram as a PDF or image.
- Manage document permissions from the integrations tab—but only if you are the document owner.
- Add a document via the Lucidchart attachment button from an email draft.
- Receive and view your Lucidchart notifications in Gmail, quickly and easily accessing the associated document.
- Create a new Lucidchart document.
Install the Lucidchart add-on for Gmail
To install the Lucidchart add-on for Gmail, follow these steps:
- Search “Lucidchart” in the Google Workspace Marketplace.
- Select “Lucidchart Diagrams for Gmail”.
- Click Install.
- Select Continue to give Lucidchart permission to begin installing.
- Click Allow to give Lucidchart access to your Google Account
-
In the confirmation window that appears, click Done.
To access the add-on, refresh your browser, then clickthe Lucidchart icon on the right-hand side of your Gmail inbox. If you don't see the sidebar in your Google Doc, Sheet, or Slide, look for a small arrow at the bottom-right of your screen. Click the arrow to expand the sidebar.
Note: This add-on is separate from the Lucidchart Diagrams add-on in the Google Workspace Marketplace, which allows you to insert diagrams into Docs, Sheets, and Slides. The Lucidchart Diagrams for Gmail add-on will need to be installed separately.
Add a Lucidchart document as an email attachment
You can add a Lucidchart document as an attachment to an email thread by clicking on the Lucidchart logo in the right panel of your Gmail account.
Then, create a new document or locate an existing document and click on the document’s thumbnail. You will pull up a preview of the first page. You can then select from the following options:
- Attach as PDF to attach the full document (all pages) to the email.
-
Insert as image to insert the first page of the document as an image.
- If you would like to attach a different page as an image we recommend copying that page into a separate Lucidchart document and using that document instead.
-
Open in Lucidchart to open the diagram in a new tab.
Underneath these options, you can see whether or not the people in the email thread have access to the document, and adjust their permissions as needed using the dropdown menu.
Please note:
- If you do not have an email thread open, you will instead see the current collaborators of the document in the bottom section, and will have the ability to add more collaborators.
- If you do not have an email thread open, and you select one of the above options, a new email will be opened with the document attached (instead of attaching to the open thread).
