Timelines in Lucidspark allow you to visualize past events or future plans. Pair them with Lucid Cards for enhanced project management, roadmaps, school projects, and presentations.

Add a Timeline to the canvas
To add a new Timeline to a Lucidspark board, follow these steps:
- Click
the Organizers icon from the Primary Toolbar on the left-side of the canvas.
- Select Timelines from the menu that appears.
- Click anywhere on the canvas.
- You can also click and drag the timeline from the Primary Toolbar onto the canvas.
Add a Lucid Card to a Timeline
There are a couple of ways you can add a Lucid Card to a Timeline:
- Double-click the space on the Timeline where you want a new card to appear.
- Drag an existing card on the canvas onto the Timeline.
Drag an existing card onto a Timeline
When dragging an existing card onto a Timeline, you have two options that determine where the Lucid Card is placed:
- Drag the card and hover over a specific date on the timeline. Once a shaded box appears on the date you want, drop the card. Using this method overrides any existing dates on the Lucid Card, updating it to reflect the new date's position on the Timeline.
- Drag the card and drop it quickly anywhere on the Timeline. By doing this, the card is placed automatically depending on the Lucid Card’s date.
Format a Timeline
There are several formatting options available for Timelines in Lucidspark. See the sections below for more details.
Show organizer controls
Most formatting options are found in the organizer controls on top of the Timeline. If you don't see organizer controls, adjust your settings so they appear by following these steps:
- Select a Timeline on the canvas.
- In the context menu that appears, select
the Shape options icon.
- Click the dropdown to the right of "Control size".
- Select a size from the options in the dropdown.
The organizer controls appear at the top of the Timeline.
Depending on the size of your Timeline, these options may appear only as icons.
Adjust the start and end date
To set a start and end date for the Timeline, follow these steps:
- Select a Timeline on the canvas.
- Click the dates from the top-left of the Timeline.
- Depending on the size of your Timeline, this may appear as
a calendar icon.
- Depending on the size of your Timeline, this may appear as
- Select a new date.
Select a unit of time
To determine what unit of time your Timeline uses, follow these steps:
- Select a Timeline on the canvas.
- Click
the Set column icon from the options at the top of the Timeline.
- Select Days, Weeks, Sprints, Months, or Quarters.
Determine row filters
To filter the cards in your Timeline by rows, follow these steps:
- Select a Timeline on the canvas.
- Click
the Set row icon from the options at the top of the Timeline.
- Select a row filter from the options in the dropdown.
- Select None to remove the row header from the Timeline.
- Select Custom row to manually sort cards in one or more custom rows. To add additional custom rows, click the plus sign that appears underneath the Timeline when it is selected.
Add a milestone
To enable milestones for a Timeline, follow these steps:
- Select a Timeline on the canvas.
- Select
the Milestone Options icon from the context menu that appears.
- From this menu, you can also show or hide a marker for today’s date and highlights on weekend days.
- Toggle on "Milestones".
Once milestones have been enabled, double-click the row that appears under the Timeline dates to add a milestone.
Format a milestone. Once you’ve added a milestone to your Timeline, select the milestone to:
- Add text
- Change fill color
- Change text color
- Adjust the date
- Adjust line style
To delete a milestone, select the milestone and press "Delete" on your keyboard.
Import items into a Timeline
Enterprise users have the option to import items into a Timeline from Jira or Azure DevOps. To import work items into a Timeline, follow these steps:
- Select a Timeline on the canvas.
- Click Import work from the organizer controls at the top of the Timeline.
- Depending on the size of your Timeline, this may appear as
the Import work icon.
- Depending on the size of your Timeline, this may appear as
- Select Jira or Azure DevOps.

Sync Lucid date fields with a Lucid Card integration
If you are using a Lucid Card integration such as Jira or Azure DevOps, you need to sync the date fields from the original source with the date fields in Lucidspark. Syncing date fields enables the following:
- Dates on Lucid Cards update automatically when a card is moved on the Timeline.
- Dates on Lucid Cards update automatically when changes are made in the original source (Jira, Azure DevOps, etc.).
- Lucid Cards added to a Timeline are automatically placed according to the card’s date as described in the section above.
- Dates in the original source are updated when a Lucid Card is moved in a Timeline.
To sync date fields, follow these steps:
- Select an integrated Lucid Card on the canvas.
- Click
the Edit details icon.
- Click
the Card settings icon in the top-right corner of the Card details panel that appears.
- Select Lucid fields in the panel that appears on the right-hand side of the screen.
- Click Select field to the right of the “Start date” and “End date” Lucid fields.
- Select a field from each dropdown menu.
- The options are generated from date fields in the original source.
- You must have edit access to the field in the original source.
- The field you select for “Start date” is used as the start date in the Timeline. The field you select for “End date” is used as the end date.
- Check the box next to “Apply mappings to every project in this Jira instance” if you want to sync these fields across all projects.
- Click Save.
Your date fields are now synced for you and any collaborators in your Lucidspark board. The field selections you make apply only to the Lucidspark board you are working in.
Manage imported items
To manage work items that have already been imported, follow these steps:
- Select a Timeline on the canvas.
- Click Manage work from the organizer controls at the top of the Timeline.
- Depending on the size of your Timeline, this may appear as
the Manage work icon.
- Depending on the size of your Timeline, this may appear as
- Select Jira or Azure DevOps.
From here, you can:
- Write a new query or adjust filters for what work items are being imported.
- Sync Jira or Azure DevOps with Lucid, updating the work items with any new information from your work management system.
Use planning features with a Timeline
Team and Enterprise users can use various planning features with Timelines. To view the options for planning features, follow the steps below:
- Select a Timeline on the canvas.
- Click Planning from the organizer controls at the top of the Timeline.
- Depending on the size of your Timeline, this may appear as

Add style to a Timeline
From the context menu that appears when you select a Timeline, you can customize fill color and text options. Check out the sections below for more details.
Add fill color to a row header
To change the fill color for the row headers of a Timeline, follow these steps:
- Select a Timeline on the canvas.
- Select a row header.
- Click
the Fill color icon from the context menu that appears.
- Select a new color.
Edit text font and size
- Select a Timeline on the canvas.
- Click
the Text options icon from the context menu that appears.
From the text options menu, you can adjust:
- Font
- Font size
- Text color
- Highlight color
- Formatting options such as bold, italic, underline, or strikethrough
- Text alignment and orientation
- Line spacing
