Learn how to add the Text field type, which includes text and URL, and its benefits.

Creating a text or URL field

The custom field of type Text allows you to add any kind of information to your items in the form of text. Create Text fields to help you enhance the item information, such as identifying outcomes and measurements of success. Text fields also can also auto-detect URLs and turn these into hyperlinks.

Tip: Add your text fields to the display options in your views settings. For example, these can be displayed as a column in a Table view.

You can create a custom field of type Text or URL by going to the Fields tab in the Workspace settings.

When you’ve given your field a title and description (optional), hit the Add field button and it will appear in the list of all your custom fields on the left. Keep in mind that you can also change the order of the fields using drag and drop, and that this order also translates to the order of fields in the item dialog, as well as columns in the Table view.

The text field has special logic that auto-detects URLs and turns these into hyperlinks. The URL field works the same as a text field. The only difference is the name, to make it easier to find, depending on your use case. Additionally, hyperlinks to some commonly used tools change to a simpler format.
