Find and replace text in Lucid

Access the find & replace menu

In addition to the keyboard hotkey shortcut of “Ctrl/Command + F” that works in both Lucidspark and Lucidchart, you can also use the method described below for each product to access the find & replace menu.

In a Lucidspark board

1. Click the Search icon on the top-left of the workspace.
2. Select Advanced at the bottom of the popup.

In a Lucidchart document

1. Click the More menu from the top-left of the canvas.
2. Hover your cursor over “Edit”.
3. Click Find & replace.

Use find & replace

You can utilize find and replace as an advanced search or as a way to replace the searched text.

Advanced search options

The advanced search options available include checkboxes to enable the following:

• Case sensitive: Only instances of the text you search that exactly match the capitalization of what you typed will appear.
  • For example, if you type “Yet” into the search box with this enabled, “yet” would not be returned as a result since the capitalization doesn’t match what was searched.
• Entire word: Only instances in which the text you type in is surrounded by spaces on both sides will appear. 
  • For example, if you type “ye” into the search box when this is enabled, “yet” would not be returned as a result since there is an additional letter following what was searched.
• Advanced match: You can locate text and punctuation with wildcards “*”, which will count any character as a match.
  • For example, if you searched for “h*t”, advanced match would return any word that has “h” and “t” in that order, with any letter replacing the asterisk: “hat,” “hit,” “hot,” and “hut.”

From the “Within” dropdown, instead of searching your entire Lucid document, you can narrow down your search parameters to search the following:

• Current selection: Limits your search results to the object(s) that you currently have selected on your Lucidspark board or Lucidchart document.
• Current page: Limits your search results to only the page you are currently viewing and excludes all additional pages. This option only works if your Lucidchart document, or Lucidspark board that has been converted over using universal canvas, has more than one page.

If your Lucid document has only one page, the “Within” dropdown will only appear if you currently have at least one object on the canvas selected.

Leverage replace feature

You can run a replace function that can replace one or all instances of a searched term. To do so:

1. Access the find & replace menu. 
2. Run a search, utilizing any of the advanced search options you want.
3. If applicable, select a “Within” restricting the results to a current selection or page in your document.
4. If you plan to replace all instances of the term, use the arrow keys to the right of the “Find” search box to make sure you want to proceed with replacing all instances.
5. In the “Replace with” text box, input the exact term(s) you want to replace your searched text.
6. Click Replace or Replace All, depending on whether you want to replace the one selected instance you are on or all instances of the searched term highlighted at once.
