Integrate Lucidchart with Schoology

In July of 2025, Lucid’s Schoology integration is deprecated. After this date, Lucid links embedded with the integration will no longer function. To continue using Lucid documents in Schoology, you can manually add the documents, allowing you to replace existing Lucid assignments and to add Lucid documents to new assignments.

For detailed steps on how to continue using Lucid in Schoology, check out this post in the Lucid Community.

Plan availability: Edu Premium only.

For system administrators: install and configure the Lucid app

  1. Log in to your Schoology Account and go to the App Center. The App Center icon is the four tiles arranged in a square in the header toolbar.

  2. Click Organization Apps to the right of the “App Center” title. This is found directly beneath the main toolbar.

  3. Scroll down to the Lucidchart app and click Install/Remove.
    • Note: Configuring the app is not the same as installing it. School administrators have the option to configure the app only, giving their instructors the option to install it individually. To do this, do not check any boxes designating which course or school you want the app installed in after you've clicked Install App in Schoology's App Center.
  4. Sign in to your Lucid account. Click Admin in the left-side menu.
  5. Select App integration dropdown from the left-side menu.
  6. Click Lucidchart from the expanded menu.
  7. Select the Schoology tile.
  8. Copy the API Key and the API Secret.

  9. Return to the Schoology Organization Apps and click Configure for the app.
  10. Paste the Consumer Key and Shared Secret.
  11. Click Save Settings.

For teachers: add the Lucidchart app to Schoology

  1. Log in to your Schoology account.
  2. Click the App Center. (The App Center is the tile of 4 squares in the top right toolbar).
  3. From the App Center, scroll down to the Lucidchart apps and click the icon.
  4. Click Install Resource App.
  5. After you've read and agree to consent to sharing information with a third party outside of Schoology, select I Agree. This helps the third party complete their required tasks.
  6. Select for whom you want to install the app.

You will now see your apps in the App Center.

Create an assignment with Lucidchart

  1. From inside a Schoology course, select Materials on the left panel.
  2. Select Add Materials.
  3. A drop-down menu will appear. Select Add Assignment.
  4. In the “Description” box, click Insert Content (the box containing a diagonal arrow).
  5. Select the Lucidchart app.
  6. Your Lucid document library will appear. Select the document you want to attach to the assignment by hovering your cursor over the assignment and clicking Select.
    • When you select a document, a link will be added to the assignment. The title of the link is pulled from the document name.

    • Note: inserting a link publishes the original document which means it is now a public document. Anyone with the link will receive access to a new copy of the document.
  7. Enter the assignment details and select Create.

Once created, the assignment will be indicated by a paper and pencil icon. When a student clicks on the link in the assignment, it will take them to a new copy of that document in Lucid. It gives anyone with the link a new copy. If you make changes to the original document, they will be reflected in the copies. You can repeat this same process to add a Lucid document to a discussion or a page.

Create a Lucid document or folder

  1. When inside a Schoology course, select the Lucidchart option on the left-side panel. This opens your Lucid documents library inside Schoology.
  2. From here, you can either access your existing documents or create a new folder or document.
    • To open an existing document, click on your desired document. It will open the document in the editor in a new tab.
    • To create a new document, click +Document. It will open a new tab with the editor.

For students: submit a Lucid document in a Schoology assignment

  1. In Lucid, export your Lucid document as a PDF file.
  2. In your Schoology course, select the assignment you want to submit.
  3. On the right-hand side under “Submissions”, click Submit Assignment.
  4. From the “Upload” tab, click the file icon to upload the PDF.
