How to link a Teams Task generated link to an object in LucidChart?

0

When I generate a link to a task in teams and try to attach it to an object using actions using the WEB/EMAIL option. The SHIFT + CTRL + Click opens Outlook and displays the hyperlink on the TO: line of the email.  I am not sure if this is a bug or if there is a way to correct this.

Hi Michael, thanks for getting back to me and confirming your intended experience and use case, as well as the current behavior. I have gone ahead and filed a bug with our development team so that they can take a closer look at what is causing these URLs to be interpreted as emails instead of web links. I am so sorry for the trouble, and I'll be sure to update you here as soon as I receive additional information. Please let me know if you have additional questions or concerns!

Hi Michael, thanks for posting in the Lucid community! Sorry for the trouble you're experiencing with this link - this does seem unusual! Can you try adding a non-Teams URL here (perhaps google.com or something similarly straightforward) to ensure that this successfully opens as a link and is not also added as a message recipient in Outlook? Additionally, can you please try shortening your task URL you've added here to just teams.microsoft.com and see if that also redirects you to Outlook, or if it successfully sends you to Teams?

When I shortened the link to https://www.google.com/ it worked. So I tried it with https://teams.microsoft.com and it took me to the location of my task board but not the task while opening up an email as well.  Hmmm just acting kinda strange.  If I shorten it up after copying it to the link field then it will sometimes open without the email screen, to the board only but will not open to the task.

So upon further investigation, I was able to get the hyperlink to work to the point it only opens the task board. I still have to locate the task and manually open it.  It will not link directly to the task itself which is what I am needing it to do.  The link that takes me to the board is this long

https://teams.microsoft.com/l/entity/com.microsoft.teamspace.tab.planner/xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

whereas the link that takes me to the task is this long

https://teams.microsoft.com/l/entity/com.microsoft.teamspace.tab.planner/xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

So the one for the task may truncate before it can fully execute if there is a limit on the number of characters that can be used in the field.

I have no control over how long the link is to get to the task as it is generated by Microsoft Teams.

Hi Michael, thanks for getting back to me, and for taking the time to try a bit of troubleshooting! I also observe what you mentioned with a test task of my own - the URL to the specific task is significantly longer than that for the task list. However, when I add the URL for the task to the Action field in Lucidchart, it does appear to capture the whole URL and I am able to link to Teams successfully.

A few additional clarifying questions - first, are you using the Teams web app or desktop app when you're obtaining this task URL? Second, to confirm the experience you're hoping for, you'd like clicking on the shape with the link in Lucidchart to open a window with a view like the following, that contains that specific task, correct?

Finally, just to make sure I am understanding what you're experiencing now, you've said you're able to link to the task board via the specific task's URL that you've manipulated yourself - are you also able to link to the task board when obtaining that URL directly from Teams? Or does that also open in Outlook?

Thank you for your help and patience!

I have tried using the link through the web and desktop version without success.

I am trying to show exactly the image you sent.  We have hundreds of tasks and I just want a visual way to follow the process flow in LucidChart with a quick button to take to me or colleagues to the teams task to do updates or see progress.

Yes, I am able to link to the Task Board (the image just before you open the task box(image above)) using the Link generated by teams.  Then when I generate a link with Teams for the task box (image above) and paste it into the Actions field it only opens OutLook.

Hi Michael, following up on this thread! Our development team is taking a look at this and has asked me to follow up with a question. Can you let me know if the URLs for a specific task that aren't redirecting to Teams but instead are opening Outlook contain an @ symbol? Thanks for your help!

Thank you!... I followed again and it is allowing me to add comments again. To answer your question. Yes the link does have an @ symbol.

Michael, thanks for following up, and apologies for that confusion. We normally have a message that will indicate if you're in a logged out state and prompt you to log in again - investigating now why this isn't appearing!

Thanks for confirming that this is the case for that URL - I will pass that along to our development team and continue to update you about the investigation.
