Using a Dynamic Table in Lucidspark is a powerful way to organize brainstormed ideas so you can derive meaning and insights, plan your work visually, and take action more quickly. You can gather a variety of shapes, sticky notes, and Lucid Cards into a Dynamic Table and organize them as desired. Read this article to learn more.

Create a Dynamic Table

Create from scratch

To add a Dynamic Table to a workspace, follow these steps:

Click the Organizers icon from the Primary Toolbar on the left-side of the canvas.
Select Dynamic Table from the menu that appears.
Click anywhere on the workspace.

An empty Dynamic Table will be added to the canvas. You can drag shapes from the canvas into the table.

Click the table to open its Context Toolbar which is where you can format your Dynamic Table and pivot it on multiple axes to sort and view your content.

Tip: After you add a sticky note to a Dynamic Table, hit "Enter" or "Tab" on your keyboard to add another. Additionally, you can double click in the table to add a sticky note.

Create from selected shapes

To add a Dynamic Table that includes shapes you've selected on the canvas, follow these steps:

Select the shapes, sticky notes, and Lucid Cards on your canvas that you want added to the Dynamic Table.
From the Context Toolbar, select the Wrap icon icon.
From the options, select Dynamic Table.

A Dynamic Table will be added to the canvas with the shapes, sticky notes, and Lucid Cards you selected. You can also drag shapes from the canvas into the table after you have created it.

Click the table to open the Context Toolbar which is where you can format your Dynamic Table and pivot it on multiple axes to sort and view your content.

Format a Dynamic Table

Select a Dynamic Table to open the Context Toolbar.

From the Context Toolbar, you can select:

the Jira quick import icon to add Lucid Cards for Jira to your table.
the Color icon to add color to your table.
- By default, color will be added only to the selected headers of your table. Check the box for “Fill color” to add a lighter version of the color to the rest of your table.
the Line color icon to customize line colors for your table.
the Text options icon to access a variety of text styling options.

the Add row icon to add a row at the bottom of your table.
- You can also hover your cursor over a row’s header and click the + icon that appears.
the Add column icon to add a column to the right of your table.
- You can also hover your cursor over a column’s header and click the + icon that appears.
the set row icon to select the row filter from the dropdown options, to create and title a custom row, or to set your Dynamic Table to have no rows.
the set column icon to select the column filter from the dropdown options, to create and title a custom column, or to set your Dynamic Table to have no columns.
the Share icon to copy a shareable link that will take users directly to the Dynamic Table.
the Planning and tracking icon to toggle the workload tracker on or off.
- The workload tracker displays the total story points for all Lucid Cards within each column of a Dynamic Table.
the Wrap content icon to wrap the Dynamic Table in a Frame.

To delete a row or column:

Click the header of the row or column you want to remove.
Select the trash icon from the Context Toolbar.

To lock a row or column:

Click the header of the row or column you want to prevent edits.
Select the lock icon from the Context Toolbar.

To manually resize rows and columns, click and drag the lines within the table to the size you want.

Tip: Need space for more shapes? Hold "Shift" then right-click and drag your cursor to expand existing Dynamic Table content.

To move objects within a table, click and drag the object to a new location. You can also click and drag shapes from the canvas into the table. Attributes set for the column or row the shape is placed in may be applied.

If you are unable to move a shape into a different row or column, it is likely because you do not have access to edit those properties. See the FAQ section for more details.

FAQ

Can I change shape properties?
Some shape properties like fill color or tags are general and can be changed by anyone with edit access on a Lucidspark board.

However, other properties like emojis or votes are tied to a specific individual on a Lucidspark board. For instance, emoji reactions cannot be edited by anyone except the person who placed them.

What if I can’t edit some of my fields for Azure DevOps cards?
We currently don’t support editing certain fields in Lucidspark such as work item type, project, reporter. You will not be able to drag cards between values for those read-only fields.

Can I move shapes within the Dynamic Table to another cell?
Yes. If the column or row uses general shape properties, you can drag shapes into that column/row and they will adopt those attributes.

Can I create a Dynamic Table with only rows or only columns?
Yes. If you wish to create a Dynamic Table that has only rows or only columns, you can select "None" from the Context Toolbar that appears above the Dynamic Table. Refer to the Format a Dynamic Table section for more information.

Can I manually title rows and columns?
Yes. From the set row icon and set column icon in the Context Toolbar, you can select "Custom Row" or "Custom Column". Double click on the row or column header and replace "Label" by typing in any title you would like for the selected row or column.

Why am I receiving an error when I try dragging a shape into another cell?
There are a few reasons you may be running into this issue.

First, if shape properties that are tied to a specific individual are used (like emojis and votes), these cannot be changed by moving shapes between cells in a Dynamic Table. If you would like to change an emoji reaction or vote that you have added to a shape within the table, you should add or remove them on the shape itself, like you would if the shape were outside the table.

Second, while the Dynamic Table works with all shape types in Lucidspark, not all shapes have the same fields or properties. For example, a sticky note shape has far fewer possible fields than a Lucid Card. For this reason, there are times where dragging one type of shape into a cell with properties from a different shape type will not work.
